If you have already Firefox installed on your computer, then you may not be able to update it using the update function immediately, since Mozilla will be rolling that out gradually. However, you can still upgrade it by downloading version 106 from the links provided below. Since Mozilla has not published any release notes at the moment, we are not entirely sure of what this release includes. However, we do have a gist through the previous Beta releases. If you are a developer, you may want to check out Firefox 105 release notes for developers. Let us take a closer look at what this release offers before getting to the downloads.

Improvements in Firefox 106

PDF Annotations

The Firefox web browser now allows users to add different annotations to a PDF file open in the browser. This new feature allows you to add text to PDFs, draw on them and add signatures, etc. Although this feature was available in Firefox version 105 as well, it was not enabled by default. Instead, this experimental feature had to be enabled manually by toggling a flag.

Welcome Screen

Like the other modern browsers, Mozilla has finally included a set of welcome screens to its web browser. After updating to Firefox 106, you will see a welcome screen permitting you to set up the browser according to your preferences. You can either skip the screens one by one or configure your browser according to your liking. From these screens, you can change your default browser to Firefox, import data from other browsers, select a color theme, and sync your open tabs across devices using a QR code.

WebRTC Improvements

Firefox 106 also brings a major improvement to the WebRTC capabilities that are based on the libwebrtc v103 library. This improves the Windows and Wayland screen sharing and RTP performance. It also enhances its reliability, offers richer statistics, lowers CPU consumption, and increases frame rates on macOS during WebRTC screen capture.
